Egg Dyeing 101

Easter is right around the corner, and that means its time to die Easter eggs. Tasty Table Catering knows this tradition is a family favorite, and activity kids will surely love. In order to make this activity a success, we have some helpful tips on how to die the perfect egg!

Step 1: Hard Boil The Eggs.

You shouldn’t dye raw eggs, because if they crack during the process they will make a mess and could get people sick! Place eggs in large saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. One boiling, remove from heat and cover for 12 minutes. Let cool, and then you are ready to begin!

 

Step 2: Dyeing the Eggs

If you don’t have a pre-made egg dyeing kit, mix one tablespoon of vinegar, 20 drops of food coloring (add more if you want a more vibrant color), and one cup of hot water to a cup/bowl deep enough for the egg to submerge. Submerge the eggs for different times to get different hues, and remove with tongs to avoid colored fingers. HINT: cover your work space with paper towels to make cleanup so much easier.

Step 3: Let the Eggs Dry

An important part to beautiful eggs is to let them dry completely. Make a drying rack with a foam square piece and nails!

Step 4: Decorate!

Decorate with stickers, markets, or even double dye the egg. After you allow the first color to dry for 15 minutes use tap and drop in a new color, or submerge only halfway!
